I am so excited to finally be revealing our new bedroom! What started as a small update turned into a major overhaul. Although we kept the style quite similar to our previous bedroom, the room got a few upgrades to say the least. My goal with redesigning the space was to create a more “adult”, elevated version of our last bedroom design. My style still clearly shines through (hello velvet bed and pink Persian rug), but I tried to tone everything down a bit. While the room is still quite feminine, I like to think I did a pretty good job of making it a little more fiancé-friendly. And for all of those who ask how Matt feels about the surplus of pink in our home, he honestly doesn’t mind it at all. He’s super appreciative of the work and care I put into making our apartment a home, and if that means some pink here and there, he’s game. Also, what you guys see on Instagram are very concentrated sections of our home, and I promise it’s not as overwhelmingly pink as it might seem.

Out of all of the changes we made, I’d say the most major were the installation of laminate floors and the reconfiguration of the space. I could not wait to rip up our carpeting. I seriously almost cried tears of joy. We replaced the carpet with laminate flooring from Home Depot. It was the second time my dad and I installed laminate flooring from Home Decorators (a brand available at The Home Depot), and we had zero issues. My dad has installed laminate flooring from many different brands over the years, and he’s been really impressed with the quality of Home Decorators. I was drawn to them for their pretty selection of finishes, and affordable price tag, but the fact that the quality is top notch too is a major plus.
Reconfiguring the space was definitely a challenge. We ultimately decided to put the bed against the window. While that wasn’t my first choice, it freed up so much space in the room, and I think it was definitely our best option. When you’re dealing with small bedrooms, you have to get creative. In the past, I had to squeeze through to get to my side of the bed, and now Matt and I can easily move around freely. No more obstacle courses before bed! Woo!
As far as furniture, we kept *almost* everything the same, with the exception of a new dresser. I love my bed and vanity set-up so I saw no reason to change it up, but we definitely needed a new dresser. Our previous dresser was the absolute worst. It was impossible to assemble, and I swear the drawers never worked from the moment we got it, which is why I never shared it on the blog. Our new dresser however is AMAZING, and it’s actually from Pottery Barn Kids!! If you read Money Can Buy Lipstick regularly, you’ll find that I often find pieces from Pottery Barn Kids. Their pieces are similar to regular Pottery Barn, but they’re often a little bit smaller, which makes them slightly less expensive. It’s great for people who have small apartments or homes like us. We’re able to save a few hundred dollars, while still getting that Pottery Barn quality (which honestly can’t be beat).
The way I was able to transform the space was definitely through decor. If you ever want to give your space a refresh, but don’t want to invest in new furniture or spend too much, switching up your home decor is definitely the way to go. While our new rug was definitely an investment, I was able to get a bunch of new pieces from Amazon, Target, and HomeGoods without breaking the bank. Speaking of our new rug, do you love it? I could not resist it. I first saw it on Allie Provost’s Instagram, and knew I needed it the moment I saw it. I know the goal was to tone things down, but I had to have this statement piece.
I was able to score our new bedding on major sale at Anthropologie, and I couldn’t be happier. I have lusted after their bedding for years. The lamps(Similar) I found at Target, and the gold jewelry and makeup organizers I found on Amazon. There are seriously so many hidden gems on Amazon if you take the time to look! The vanity area I kept nearly identical with the exception of a few new pieces of decor and an accent stool. I was so happy when I found this accent stool on Wayfair. It’s similar to the one I had, but it’s a bit more luxe!

I am so happy with the way the space turned out! I have a few changes I still want to make, but I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you. If I waited until it was perfect, you guys would be waiting forever!
