When you first hear “organization tips”, your mind might immediately go to decluttering different areas of your home. While you know I love a good home declutter, this year I want to focus on organizing all areas of life, not just the home! These organization tips are great habits to start to set yourself up for success in the new year. Whether you’re looking to make your home a little neater or do a digital detox, keep reading for all of my simple “life organization” tips!

Declutter Regularly

Okay, let’s start with the decluttering. It’s easy for things to pile up, especially if you’re not decluttering regularly, so that’s why I like to schedule a monthly reminder to declutter. Set a date on your phone each month as your “declutter day”, and clear out the areas that need it. This can mean cleaning out spaces of your home, going through your closet and donating old items, or even doing a digital declutter by unfollowing accounts that don’t serve you. Whatever way you need to declutter, schedule the time and stick to it.

Use a Planner

I’m someone who loves a planner as it keeps me organized and on top of my schedule. There are so many digital options out there that you can connect straight to your phone, or if you’re more of a pen-to-paper girly, check out all of my favorite planners here.

Time Block Your Day

If you feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done, try out time blocking! Time blocking is essentially setting aside specific times for tasks throughout the day. For example, maybe your mornings are for focused work, and afternoons are for meetings or errands. Or try time blocking your work day, focusing on one project during a span of time instead of bouncing around. You can do this with all things – chores, cleaning… it helps in staying productive and motivated and helps avoid getting overwhelmed.

Create Morning and Evening Routines

Nothing sets you up for success more than a solid routine! Starting and ending the day with a set routine helps create a sense of structure and clarity. I like to stick to my routines during the week and during the weekend, be much more relaxed, and see where the day takes me. Although, usually, I still end up in my routine!

Try a Digital Detox

In the world of everything digital, it’s easy to get lost in the endless doom-scroll. When I’m spending hours on social media for things that aren’t work-related, I know it’s time to do a detox! Even something as simple as a Sunday off your phone and away from social media is so refreshing and puts you in a great headspace for the week ahead.

Designate Spaces for Everything

You know I love a designated space! Once I started labeling storage bins, drawers, and shelves and keeping things in their specific area, it made a HUGE difference in the organization of my home. If it seems overwhelming, start small, and give yourself one organizational project a month. February is for reorganizing the pantry, March is for reorganizing the closet, and so on. Set Weekly Goals and Reflect

Start the week by setting goals you want to achieve. This can be in work or in personal life. I always like to jot down my goals and cross them off as the week progresses. At the end of the week, review what you have accomplished, and what you didn’t, and reflect. This keeps me so motivated as it’s super satisfying to cross something off of my list!

Plan Meals Ahead of Time

Over the weekend, I’ve started planning out my meals for the week, and it has made such a difference! I write out all of the meals and food I want to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and make a grocery list with everything I need. I also like to ingredient prep and do minimal food prep so when the busy week rolls around, I’m not spending my time after work at the grocery store or ordering last-minute takeout every night because I’m too tired to cook. It takes a little work upfront, but is so worth it!

Not every week is perfect, but these simple tips over time have formed into healthy habits and have drastically improved my day to day. Try one out or try them all and let me know what you think!
