Linen Closet Organization Ideas
A well-organized linen closet can save you time and reduce stress, making sure you always know where to find that extra towel or fresh set of sheets. I hate to admit that I’ve spent many nights sleeping on damp sheets because my sheets didn’t dry in time for bed, and I couldn’t find an extra set. With the right organizers, transforming your linen closet into a neat and functional space is simpler than you think. Keep reading to learn how you can turn your linen closet into a well-organized, Pinterest-worthy space.
We recently revamped our upstairs linen closet and it has made life 1000x easier. Being able to see everything clearly not only ensures we know where everything is, but it helps us keep stock of what we actually have. Here are my actionable tips for how you can transform your own linen closet:
Declutter and Purge
Before we get to the fun part, you first need to pull everything out of your linen closet. That way you can take stock of what you have, as well as what you need to get rid of.
- Sort through the linens: Donate or recycle anything that is worn-out, ripped, or stained. Some animal shelters actually accept used linens, so definitely check with your local shelters.
- Categorize: Separate your bed linens, towels, and toiletries into different sections. This makes it easier to find the right organizers when it’s time to put everything away.
- Edit: Once you’ve created your sections, go through each one to see if there is anything else you can get rid of to reduce clutter.
Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time to move on to adding in organizers that will help you maximize your space.
Organizers
Sheet Organizers
I feel like one of the biggest pain points when it comes to organizing linen closets is how to tackle storing your sheets. For years, I would just stuff them into a closet and hope for the best. Ultimately, this never worked out. Every time I needed to change our sheets or had a guest visiting, I would spend far too much time trying to find the right-sized sheets.
Luckily over the years I’ve discovered two solutions that work perfectly. You can decide which one would work best for your needs and budget. First up are these linen label bands that you can wrap around your stacks of sheets. This helps you easily identify your sheets in an instant. If you’re looking to take it one step further, I have been loving these sheet organizer boxes. You can use them to separate your bedding by size, color, or whatever else your heart desires. They’re stackable, protect your linens from dust, and can be collapsed when you’re not using them.
Shelf Dividers
Shelf dividers are a great solution for maximizing space on your shelves. Not only do they help you create different sections, but they prevent your folded linens from falling over. They will keep your stacks looking neat while maintaining separation between different categories of linens.
Baskets & Bins
Baskets and bins are essential when organizing your linen closet. They allow you to group smaller items together like washcloths, pillowcases, or small toiletry items. For linens, I love using baskets. These scalloped baskets in particular are the prettiest I’ve ever seen. For toiletries, I love using clear bins. It makes it easier to quickly see what’s inside. I also like to add labels where I can too just to add an extra layer of organization.
Wire baskets
At the bottom of a linen closet, I suggest using oversized wire baskets to store some of the bulkier items. We use them specifically for toilet paper and larger linens like throw blankets and quilts. It makes them easy to grab when needed.
By following these steps and using the products I’ve shared, you can create an organized, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing linen closet. Remember, the key to a functional linen closet is maintaining categories, using bins and organizers to keep things tidy, and ensuring that everything has a designated spot. These tips and products will help you achieve a clutter-free linen closet that you’ll love opening every day!
