I love hosting family and friends in our home, and especially enjoy it during the holiday season. While hosting guests for the day is no easy feat, overnight guests are a whole different beast, so I’m sharing my house-guest hosting guide filled with my top tips when it comes to overnight guests. I always like to make my guests feel welcome and super comfortable, and over the years of hosting I’ve figured out what really makes a difference. Let’s get into it!

Prep Your Space

Make sure you have enough clean bedding, towels, and toiletries for your guests. A tidy guest room or designated area for them to sleep in is so important! Guests want to feel like they have their own space, which in turn will make them feel more comfortable which is the ultimate goal.

Check-In on Their Preferences

If someone is staying over for the first time, I always like to ask them about any allergies, dietary restrictions, or preferences. Going the extra mile is always appreciated and if they stay with you again, you already know for next time. When my family stays over, I already know their preferences, but I do always like to check in and ask if they want any special snacks or drinks before they arrive.

Give Information in the Beginning

Sometimes guests feel uncomfortable asking for things, so I like to give them all the info from the jump. Let them know where to find extra towels, how to use appliances or any house rules. A little guide can be helpful, especially if they’re unfamiliar with your place!

Have Activities in Mind

Guests will come to you for local activities or recommendations, so it’s always nice to have a few things in mind. Whether that be where to go for dinner, something to do on a Saturday afternoon, the best place to grab an iced latte, or cute places to stroll and shop, make sure you give it some thought beforehand.

Create a Cozy Atmosphere

Small little touches like fresh flowers, a soft blanket, or a welcome basket can make your guest room feel so much more inviting. I also always love to have the bathroom stocked with extra toiletries like a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, you name it! The more you can provide for your guests the better.

Enjoy It

It can very quickly become stressful when prepping your home for guests, as it feels like everything needs to be perfect and pristine. At the end of the day, your family or friends are coming to enjoy time with you, so do your best to prep and then enjoy the time when they arrive! Most of the time, people aren’t going to notice the little, insignificant things it’s easy to become worried over.
