This spring, Hourglass released a new formula to the Ambient Lighting collection. The Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders are designed to “sculpt the face with light, creating depth and dimension for a refined, natural-looking highlight”. If you know me, then you know how passionate I am about highlighters. Yes, bronzers are great for sculpting and contouring, but it can sometimes be a bit harsh. While contouring involves applying both bronzer and highlighter, strobing exclusively focuses on highlighting. Simply apply a highlighter or illuminator where light would naturally hit your face — cheekbones, cupid’s bow, brow bones and the bridge of your nose, and you’ll achieve softer, more natural definition. The Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders, with the help of the Ambient Strobe Light Sculptor, are the perfect products for highlighting your features and mastering the art of strobing.

The powders are formulated in a sheer base, so when you swatch it on your hand, you’re not going to see a ton of color, or pigment. The magic happens when you apply it your face! These powders were designed to really shine when light hits them, so you’ll see when you apply it to your face, it adds a natural, gorgeous glow. I can’t emphasis enough how natural the finish is. You’re not going to get that stark, frosty look that some highlighters create. The powders are light and smooth, so the highlight not only looks natural, but feels natural on your skin.

The Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders are available in four shades; Iridescent, Incandescent, Euphoric, and Brilliant.

Iridescent | an illuminating pink powder imparting a soft highlight.
Incandescent | an opalescent pearl powder bestowing a celestial highlight.
Euphoric | a pearlescent beige powder bestowing a natural highlight.
Brilliant | a shimmering gold powder imparting a lustrous highlight.

I personally own and use Iridescent and Incandescent. As someone who is extremely picky about the amount of shimmer in a product, I can safely say the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders contain the perfect balance. It’s just enough shimmer to enhance the glow, without emphasizing the appearance of your pores, which is a big deal to me.

Now, let’s chat about the Ambient Strobe Light Sculptor. I am a beauty sponge girl. I will almost always gravitate towards a beauty sponge, rather than a make-up brush. So it’s safe to say I was intrigued by this new sculpting sponge. The sculptor is dual-ended; one side is angled to apply the highlighter, and the other side is flat and velvety-soft for blending. It’s pretty much genius. I adore the way it applies the highlighter, and it complements the Ambient Strobe Powders perfectly. It’s easy to use, and you can wet it for more intense highlighting.

Lastly, let’s discuss the size of the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders. Each highlighter features 0.16 oz of product, which is about the same size as the Ambient Lighting Blushes. I know a ton of people complained about the sizing of the Ambient Lighting Edit palette (myself NOT included), so rest assured that the sizing of the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders should be considered far more reasonable for the price.

As with basically every Hourglass release, I was extremely happy with the line. I have definitely leaned more towards strobing, rather than contourng in recent months and I can see myself getting a ton of use out of the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders with the warmer months approaching.

What do you think of the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders? Are you a fan of strobing? xo
