A behind-the-cabinet-doors look at how we set up our kitchen coffee bar, and everything that made the cut.

When we were planning this kitchen, I knew I wanted a designated spot for making coffee. We ended up going with pocket doors for the coffee cabinet, which I loved the idea of from the start: when it’s styled and put together, I can leave it open and let it be part of the room, but the second it gets cluttered or chaotic, it slides shut and disappears. Our designer, Jeanne Allen, was the one who suggested walnut for the interior, and it turned out even better than I expected. I’d normally be a little afraid of a darker wood like that, but against the cream cabinets it ended up being one of my favorite details in the whole kitchen.
