Last week I hosted family and it was so fun to all be together in our house! I host from time to time but this was the first time in a while that family was staying for a longer period of time, so I knew I wanted to make some little updates to make them feel comfortable and completely at home! I love hosting and I find so much joy in making my guests feel welcome as soon as they walk in the door, all of the little touches do it for me. After getting ready for my family to come and enjoying the time with them, I knew my prep was 100% worth it! I put together a few ways to prep your home for guests in today’s post so you can easily get your home guest-ready with a few simple, easy touches.

Clean and Declutter

This might be obvious, but of course, if you’re hosting you want to make sure the space your guests will be staying in is clean and mess-free. I know spare spaces in the home whether it be an office with a pullout couch, a guest bedroom, a loft, etc. can typically hold clutter or other items that don’t fit in other rooms of the house. Get rid of anything that might be in guests’ way or that might make the space they’re staying in uncomfortable. This might be a project, but totally worth it in the end!

Create Space to Hang Out

Another important step is to make sure you have room for your guests to relax and hang out. If the seating in your living room isn’t big enough for more people, bring in some chairs that are ready for guests to sit on. Even moving furniture around a bit can be a good idea to add more space so guests feel comfortable and not cramped. Adding additional people to your home can sometimes feel overwhelming, so make sure there is ample space for everyone to be and spend time together.

Remember the Things They Forgot

I always think it’s so thoughtful when I go to stay somewhere and there is a spare toothbrush or body wash at the ready. I love to do this for my guests as well! Stock up on items that they might have forgotten, or anything that they might need but don’t typically pack. I love to have spare toothbrushes on hand, along with shower products like body wash, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. Even things like Q-Tips and cotton balls are great to store in little jars in case they might need them but didn’t want to pack them. Going that extra mile for guests is always appreciated!

Add Sweet Touches

My favorite part of hosting guests is putting things together that they wouldn’t normally expect to have during their stay. Even when it’s just family coming over, I LOVE making them feel like they’re on a little vacation so they can fully relax! This time, I added some fun touches in the side table drawer like lavender sleep mist, a lip mask, hand cream, and a silk eye mask so they can unwind before bed. Adding these sweet touches always makes my guests so happy and I love to see them enjoying their time and feeling comfortable!

Stock the Necessities

Lastly, don’t forget to have all of the necessities ready for guests before they arrive. I always make sure to have plenty of clean towels folded and ready in the bathroom, along with things like a phone charger plugged in by the nightstand so they can easily plug in their phone before bed. Having these necessities ready to go is one less thing guests have to worry about and I know by the time they have arrived I’ve covered all of my bases.

The most important thing is making your guests feel comfortable. Any way you accomplish this is a win in my book! Let me know if you have any fun things you like to do for guests in the comments, I always like to hear new ideas!
